Afternoon Class'
Animator: Osro
This is a hand drawn, computerized animation that is a good example of the animation principle; Exaggeration. I chose to include this animation because the animator brilliantly expressed emotions through animation. The main emotion that is presented through out the entire animation is exhaustion. Osro could have animated this is a simple matter and still have their characters look sleepy but they decided to exaggerate the emotion to a new extent. Skin sags and the face begins to become distorted. This animation takes exaggeration to its limit, really enforcing absolute exhaustion into it's viewer's heads by using metaphors and distortion. Every movement is heavy and painful and every frame shows a new aspect of fatigue. Each exaggerated scene only makes this animation better. A look of disinterest and some darkness beneath the eyes would have been enough convince the audience that the character was tired but Osro pushed it further and did so excellently!
Pearl's Sword Fight (Steven Universe)
Animators: Sunmin Images Pictures Company and Rough Draft Korea
This is a hand drawn 2D animation that is a good example of the animation principle; Arcs. I chose to include this scene because uses the arcs principle to show a more fluidness to the fight. The fight isn't meant to be ugly and rigid, it's meant to be proper and fluid. The animators use arcs to breath life into the movement of the swords. A silver arc follows the actions of the blade, giving it a natural look that is steady and elegant. This animator's used the arcs principle in a smart way to make the sword fight more interesting.
